VILLAGE NEWS The Farnborough
War Memorial The Farnborough Village Society extends most hearty thanks to all who have supported the recent restoration and improvement project in so many ways, without which it would not have been possible. There
will be a Service of Dedication of the new plaques, commemorating those who
died in the Second World War, at St. Giles Church on Sunday 11th May 2008, at
11am. To help in making this a fitting ceremony, we would
like the names and addresses of relatives of those listed below, so that we
can send them an invitation. If you are able to provide any of this
information, please contact:- Mrs Sue Ellis -

Viners Farm Update Many
of you have noticed the machinery that has been going in and out of the gated
entrance to Viners Farm, and for a small number of you, there has been the
terrible thought that all is about to change with additional development etc.
Well, there are some minor changes but all good……… Viners
farm is ‘Green Belt’ land and long may it stay that way. There is
no hidden agenda. The objective is to clean up the land by removing the
rubbish, and to restore it to its former glory. For a number of years now the farm has had very little
maintenance work carried out within the land, and this of course has led to a
number of problems, least of all a major leak within the grounds of the farm
that has caused much damage to the land. In order to bring the farm back to
life there is a great deal of work to be done. Much
of this work has already been completed which includes the cutting back of
overgrown fields to expose the problems caused by the leaks within the farm.
There is an ongoing programme to remove rubbish which has been dumped within
the farm land (milk float, 2 x engine blocks, numerous bikes, corrugated
sheeting, old pipe work, builders rubble to mention just a few) and this will
help restore a more rural feel to the land. The removal of much of the dead
brush and bramble, which has been strangling many of the trees, has now been
completed and within time this will help the trees to flourish and return to
the former beauty. It is the owner’s intention to restore the land,
with plans to introduce sheep to certain parts of the farm. So what changes will affect the
villagers? As
many of you are aware, there are currently a number of owners with dogs using
the land as a common park land with the dogs running free, this of course is
unacceptable with the introduction of livestock. Many of those I have spoken
to were not aware of the farm being in private ownership and believed that
the land was open for all to use. The lack of fencing has caused a number of
problems over the years, least of all with scrambling bikes coming onto the
land, mainly during the summer months. Over the next few months, much of the
boundary fencing will be renewed and this will in itself cut off the route
that you may now be using to walk dogs. So how long will the work take to
complete? With all going well we would like too think that Viners
farm will be plush green grass before Christmas. Priority will be given to
those parts of the farm that are seen by the local community namely the land
at the back of Strawberry Fields and the field on the corner of the high
street, which is currently a bit of an ‘eye saw’. Is there plan to build a roadway from
the gated entrance to the farm and if so, will this look out of place? When
planning was given for the three houses within Strawberry Fields there was a
commitment to create a roadway to the farm, including access for the Scouts
to be able to access the piece of land that was given to them, as part of the
planning agreement. This work was never completed but discussions are
underway to fulfil this commitment. This will certainly not look out of place as it will
not be seen from the road. The entrance has already been cleared of all the
dumped rubbish and when complete, will be replanted creating a much nicer
entrance than the one that currently exists. Having an interest in what is
happening within your village is nothing but healthy, but the lack of
information only kindles peoples concerns, to that end, I hope that the above
few lines will give you all a better understanding of the work in hand. On behalf
of the owner of Viners farm
